Find a kitchen printer's IP address
Three ways to look up a printer's IP so you can put it into Printers.
The printer needs an IP address on your venue's network, and it must be on the same Wi-Fi as the rest of your setup. Once you know the IP, put it in the IP address field for the printer in Printers — see Register a kitchen printer. If you run more than one site, use the Location filter at the top of the printer list to narrow it down to the venue you're standing in.
Three ways to find it
- Print the printer's self-test slip. On most Star printers — and on most generic ESC/POS printers too — hold the FEED button while powering the printer on. The slip it prints includes the printer's IP address. Fastest option if the printer is in front of you.
- Open the printer's own web page. Type
http://<printer-ip>into a browser on the same network to reach the printer's configuration page, which shows its network settings. Useful once you know a working IP. - Check your Wi-Fi router. Its list of connected devices shows the printer and its IP.
Heads up
Networks reassign addresses, so an IP that worked last month can change. Reserve the printer's IP in your router (a DHCP reservation), or re-check it when the printer suddenly stops responding.
Cable printers don't have one
If the printer is plugged straight into a till with a USB cable, there is no IP address to find — set How is it connected? to Connected by cable to a till when you register it, pick the till, and the address fields disappear.
