Set up printer stations

Turn a station into a printer station — pick the printer and layout so a chit fires when the order lands.

A printer station prints a paper chit when an order fires, instead of (or as well as) showing tickets on a screen. This guide covers turning a station into a printer station. For the shared basics of stations, see Set up kitchen stations.

Note

KDS must be switched on for your account. If you don't see the KDS section, ask your account manager.

What a printer station needs to fire

A printer station prints only when both of these are set:

  1. A printer — registered under Store settings → Printers. See Register a kitchen printer.
  2. A printed ticket layout — the chit design, built in the Ticket editor.

If only one is set, the station shows a warning and nothing prints until you add the other. You can do these two in either order — the station simply won't print until both are filled in.

Turn a station into a printer station

  1. 1

Open the station and set Output to Printer

On the station's page, change Output to Printer.

  2. 2

Choose how many tickets per order

Set Tickets per order to 1 or 2. Two lets you print a kitchen chit and a separate pass chit. See Two tickets per order.

  3. 3

Assign a printer and a layout to each ticket

For each ticket, pick a printer and a Printed ticket layout, then click Save in the top bar — the fields apply on Save, not as you pick them. They can differ per ticket. Both must be set for that ticket to print. If you run more than one site, the picker offers the station's own site's printers (plus any printer without a site) — a saved printer that now sits at a different site shows marked "OTHER SITE" so you can move it on.

  4. 4

Optionally also show on a screen

See Also show on a screen. Leave it off if you only want paper.

Routing still applies

A printer station is routed exactly like a screen station: items only print at it if they're routed to it in Menu routing. Expo stations are the exception — they see every item regardless of routing. So if a printer station prints nothing, check the items are routed to it.
