Get and manage kitchen screen links

How screen links work — one per device, labelling, recovery, revoking, and QR codes — so each screen shows the right station.

A screen link is the unique web address that turns a device into a kitchen display for one station. Open it on a tablet or screen and that device shows that station's tickets — no other setup needed. This article covers how the links work and how to manage them; for creating stations themselves see Set up kitchen stations.

Note

KDS must be switched on for your account. If you don't see the KDS section, ask your account manager.

Each link is a one-off URL tied to a station. When you open it on a device, it automatically configures that device as the station's display — there's nothing to log into or set up by hand. The device keeps showing the station's tickets until you revoke the link or close the page.

Open the station and look in the Output box. The screen links sit with the rest of the screen settings, which appear once the output is set to KDS screen — or, on a printer station, once Also show on a screen is ticked and saved. A printer-only station has no screen, so it has no links.

Note

Links are the exception to Save. Everything else on a station's page applies when you click Save; minting and revoking a link happen straight away, because a link is a credential rather than a setting.

You can have several links pointing at the same station — one for each physical screen. A grill station shown on both a wall screen and a tablet uses two links, one opened on each. Use Add URL on the station's page to mint another.

Give each link a label (e.g. "Wall screen", "Front kitchen tablet") so you can tell at a glance which physical screen a link belongs to. The label is just for your own tracking.

Links are recoverable — you never lose one by closing the dialog. From the station's page:

  • Show URL — see an existing link again, with its QR code, to reopen it on a device.
  • Add URL — create a new link for another device.

Tip

Because Show URL always brings a link back, it's safe to close the dialog after opening a screen. You don't need to write the URL down.

QR codes

Each link comes with a QR code. On a phone or tablet, scan the QR instead of typing the URL — point the camera at it and open the link. Handy for bringing a new tablet online quickly.

Revoke retires a link. The device using it stops receiving tickets immediately — use this when a screen leaves service, a tablet is lost, or you want to cut a device off. Revoking one link doesn't affect the station's other links; the remaining screens keep working. If you need that device back later, mint a fresh link with Add URL.
