Void a line before payment
Remove an item from an open, unpaid tab on the terminal.
While a tab is still open and unpaid, you can remove an item from it. This is a void — nothing has been charged yet, so no money moves.
- 1
Open the tab
From the tables grid or the open-tabs list, tap the table or tab.
- 2
Find the item and void it
On the order, each line has a Void control to the right of its price, when your mode and role allow it. Tap it and a pop-up opens for that line: choose how many (it starts at 1; All takes the whole line) and tap the red Void button, which says exactly what will go. The Void item tile in Quick Actions opens the same pop-up. If your role doesn't allow it and your mode has Manager override turned on, a manager can unlock it for this bill with their own passcode — see Manager override. You may be asked for the mode's refunds passcode first.
A void changes the open bill before it's paid — it doesn't move any money. A voided line also drops off the printed bill, so the docket you hand the customer matches the amount due — the voided item isn't listed and isn't in the total.
A drink sold in sizes names its size on the line, so two sizes of the same drink are two separate lines and you can void just the wrong one. See Drink sizes.
Items you ordered more than once
If the same item was sent in more than one round (say a drink ordered early, then two more later), the bill shows it as one combined line — for example a single "3 × Coca Cola" instead of separate "1 ×" and "2 ×" lines. Tap Void on it and pick how many: the most recent round goes first, so voiding 1 of the 3 takes one off the later round. You no longer need to void the whole line and ring the rest back in.
Taking part of a single line (1 of "4 × Prawn cocktail" rung in one go) needs signal; offline the pop-up says so, and you can void the whole line or wait. Where voids with reasons are switched on, the pop-up also asks why. See Voiding items.
Lines only combine when they're truly the same. Each line shows its size, its options (like Oat milk · Extra shot) and any item note under the name, and a different option or note keeps it on its own line. So a Crostini with butter and one with tomato stay two lines, and you can void just the wrong one.
Paid lines can't be voided
If a line has already been paid (through a part-payment or a split), the till refuses to void it: money has been taken, so the way back is a refund, not a void. See Process a refund or void on the terminal.
If the till is syncing
With instant ordering enabled, a void applies on the till immediately and syncs in the background. In the rare case the server can't accept it (the tab closed on another till first, or the bill changed underneath), the line comes back on the bill and the change appears under the till's review chip with the reason — check the bill (and the charge, if the tab already closed) before removing the line again.
If the item was already fired to the kitchen
Voiding it on the till doesn't un-cook it; tell the kitchen separately. See Sending to the kitchen.
Closing a tab once every line is voided
If you void every line on a tab there's nothing left to pay. The bill shows £0, and the tab now offers a Close tab button — tap it to close the emptied tab (the same Close you get on a brand-new empty tab or one that's already been fully paid off). Nothing is charged.
This works offline. Closing a tab is saved on the till straight away and sent up on its own when the connection comes back, so the button stays live whether or not you have Wi-Fi and you never need to try again. If you closed the tab while offline it may still show on another device until the till reconnects — that's the sync catching up, not a second tab.
