Receipts and reprints
How customers get a receipt — printed, emailed, or as a digital page they can print or save as PDF.
Every sale can give the customer a receipt. There are three ways a customer ends up with one: a printed paper receipt, an emailed link, and a digital receipt page they can print or save themselves.
Printed receipts
A paper receipt prints from a printer that's assigned to the till taking the sale, and only when that till is online. Setting up which printer a till uses, and designing what the receipt looks like, is done in Receipt layouts — see Receipt layouts under Store settings. Receipt layouts also has a test print so you can check a printer is wired up correctly.
Reprinting a receipt for a past sale
From the till's Records screen you can reprint a paper receipt for any sale that's already closed — open the sale and tap Print receipt.
To find one sale fast, type its order number with a hash in the Records search, for example #8413. That finds exactly that order. Every sale has an order number, printed on its receipt, and order numbers never reset, so the number alone identifies one sale. Type the number without the hash and the search matches it anywhere, table names included. This prints through the exact same design as Receipt layouts (your logo, layout, and lines) — the same design a live sale prints with, not a fixed layout.
Because the reprint always uses your current Receipt layouts design, if you change that design, the very next reprint (or any print) reflects it straight away — there's no app update to wait for.
Note
Reprinting needs an internet connection. If the till is offline, Print receipt greys out and reads "Unavailable offline" until it reconnects.
Refund slips for cash refunds
When a cash sale is refunded from the till's Records screen, the till prints a refund slip as soon as the refund is recorded. It shows what was refunded and why, then the corrected bill: what the customer has actually paid now.
To print it again, open the sale in Records. Its Refunds list shows each refund, and every cash refund there has Reprint refund slip.
A refund slip follows the same rules as Print receipt: it only prints when the till has a receipt printer and, on a mode that requires staff to sign in, the person's role is allowed to print receipts. Offline, Reprint refund slip reads "Unavailable offline" until the till reconnects.
Emailed receipts
A customer can be emailed their receipt at the point of sale. The email is a short message with a link to their digital receipt — the receipt itself lives on that page, not as an attachment. The subject reads "Your receipt from" followed by your business name, and the email is signed off by Tillable.
The digital receipt page
The emailed link (and a receipt QR code) opens a public receipt page at a
web address like /r/<code>. The customer doesn't need a login. From that
page they can:
- Print the receipt, and
- Download a PDF copy.
So even without a printer at the counter, a customer can get a printed or saved copy themselves.
Note
The digital receipt page is read-only and tied to a unique code for that sale. If a link doesn't open, it may have expired or never been issued.
Resending a receipt after the sale
If a customer never got their receipt, or their link expired, you can send them a fresh one. This is done on the terminal, not in the portal — there's no resend button on a sale in the portal sales log. From the device's past-sales screen you find the sale and re-email the receipt to any address, which issues a new working link to the same digital receipt. Full steps: Resend a receipt for a past sale.
Receipt layouts is for design, not resending
It's easy to assume Receipt layouts (under Store settings → Receipt layouts) is where you'd go to resend a past receipt. It isn't. Receipt layouts is purely the designer — it's where you set what a receipt looks like (your name, logo, layout, the lines that print) and where you pick which printer a till uses, with a test print to check the wiring. It does not list past sales and has no resend. To resend a receipt for a sale that already happened, use the terminal (above).
That is true of the new Receipt layouts page too, which some venues now have: it lists your receipt designs, not your sales. See Receipt layouts.
If an address has bounced before
Some addresses can't receive email at all — the mailbox was closed, someone marked an earlier message as spam, or the address was blocked by hand. When that's the case, we stop trying rather than retrying in the background, and the receipt log records that the address itself is the problem rather than a temporary hiccup.
Nothing you can do from the portal will change that — the block sits with the email provider, not with us. Send it to a different address instead, or correct a typo and try again. If the customer insists the address is fine, tell us and we'll check whether it can be un-blocked.
A genuine wobble — the provider being briefly unreachable — is different, and that one we do keep retrying on its own.
