Voiding items
Void some or all of a line on the till, say why, and see every void in Reports.
A void takes an item off an open bill before it is paid. No money moves. This guide covers voids with reasons, which Tillable switches on for your venue. If you don't see Void reasons under Settings → Store settings, ask us. It needs the latest till app on every till, so we switch it on once your tills are updated.
On the till
- 1
Tap Void on the line
Open the bill and tap Void beside the item. You can also use the Void item tile in Quick Actions. You may be asked for the refunds passcode first.
- 2
Choose how many
For a line of more than one, pick how many to void. It starts at 1, and the All chip (for example All 4) takes the whole line. Paid items can't be voided, so the most you can pick is what is still unpaid. Deals priced together, and lines without a price of their own, can only be voided whole.
- 3
Pick a reason
Tap the reason. Other lets you add a short note. Nothing is picked for you.
- 4
Confirm
The red button says what will go, for example Void 1 × Prawn cocktail · £7.50. A void can't be undone, so check it first.
The rest of the line stays on the bill. If four prawn cocktails were sent and you void one, the bill keeps three.
The kitchen
If the item was already sent to the kitchen:
- The kitchen screen shows the new number, for example 3× Prawn cocktail · −1 VOIDED.
- A VOID slip prints at the printer the item was sent to. It shows the table, how many, the reason, who and when. The till's message after the void says whether a slip was sent.
A ticket the kitchen has already bumped still gets a slip, because the dish may be plated. Nothing prints for an item that was never sent, for one that only went to a kitchen screen, or for a held course that never printed. To stop the slips, switch off Print a void slip under Settings → Store settings → Void reasons.
Offline
Without signal you can still void a whole line. It is saved on the till and sent when the connection comes back. If that is more than 15 minutes later, no slip prints, so tell the kitchen yourself.
Voiding part of a line needs signal: the till says so, and you can void the whole line or wait.
Your reasons
Under Settings → Store settings → Void reasons you can add, rename and remove the reasons staff pick from (up to 12). On the till shows the chips as staff will see them. Other is always offered, so you don't need to add it. Changes reach your tills within a minute.
Renaming a reason starts a new line in Reports. Past voids keep the name they were recorded with.
Who can void is set elsewhere: tick Void items on a role under Staff Roles, and set the refunds passcode under Passcodes.
Reports → Voids
Reports → Voids lists every void with when, which bill, the item, its value, the reason, who did it, which till and whether it had been sent to the kitchen. By is whoever was signed in on the till; if nobody was, it shows the till's name.
- Voided value is already left out of your sales figures.
- Share of sales is the voided value as a share of everything rung in (sales plus voids).
- After it reached the kitchen counts items voided after they were sent: food that may already have been made.
- By staff compares each person's voided value with the average of everyone who voided. Voids made with nobody signed in show as Nobody signed in.
- A whole bill that was cleared shows as Whole bill with its items, and a reason such as Bill cleared by staff or Bill cleared automatically.
Filter by dates, staff, reason, till, or items and whole bills, and use Export for a CSV. Voids are recorded from the date shown under the title (Recorded since …), so earlier dates show nothing.
