Table-service sale walkthrough
What staff see for a table-service sale — the tables grid, opening a tab, adding items, and getting to payment.
When the device runs a mode with the floor plan, the home screen is your tables grid — your tables laid out the way you arranged them in the portal.
The tables grid
Each table is a tile. The tile's colour tells staff its state at a glance:
- A plain tile means no open tab — the table is free.
- A tinted tile means a tab is open on that table.
- A "Bill requested" tile means the table has asked for their bill.
There's also a Tabs view for free-standing tabs that aren't tied to a table (bar tabs).
Where your mode has it turned on, a small toggle above the grid switches between this room-shaped view and a whiteboard-style Board view — see The live floor plan. Either way, tapping a table opens its journey panel with the same "Mark"/"Back" controls.
Open a tab on a table
Tap a free table tile. The terminal asks how many people are seated (covers), then opens a tab against that table and takes you to the order screen. Tapping a table that already has a tab opens that existing tab.
The tab gets its order number the moment it opens, and it shows on the tab card and at the top of the order screen (Table 7 · #8413). The kitchen ticket, the receipt and the sale in Records all carry that same number. Order numbers never reset, and a tab that's voided keeps the number it was given, so you may see gaps.
The order screen (the tab)
This is where the meal is built. From here staff:
- Add items from the menu, with plus/minus quantity controls and any modifiers — see Ringing up items with options.
- Send to the kitchen — see Sending to the kitchen.
- Pay — see Taking payment, which also covers Split order and Pay part of the bill.
The tab keeps a running total and stays open until the table pays.
-
Move to another table — from the tab (or the Move quick action), pick the new table. The tab takes the new table's number with it, so the order screen, kitchen tickets and Order Center all show where the party is sitting now. A named bar tab (e.g. "John") keeps its name when you seat it.
After you pick the table, the till asks Move to [table] — How many guests?, starting at the party's current number. Change it if the party has grown or shrunk, then tap Move.
The floor plan updates the moment you confirm the covers — the old table goes free and the new one shows the party straight away, without waiting for anything, and tapping the new table opens the moved tab. It works exactly the same with no connection, and so does seating a bar tab on a table for the first time: the change is saved on the till first and sent on afterwards.
If the till is offline when you move, the tab also shows Table change not sent until the connection comes back — the move is safe, but the other tills in the venue still show the party at the old table, so don't send anyone looking for them there yet. See Till troubleshooting for what to do if the table you moved to had been taken in the meantime.
-
See who the tab is saved to. If a customer has been added to the tab, their name shows at the top of the order screen, under the table name — Customer · Jane C. — first name and surname initial only, so their full details stay private. You don't have to open anything to check it, and it stays there when you come back to the tab later, on this till or another one. Tap the Customer quick action to see their points and rewards or to remove them.
-
Once a tab has been paid, the customer can't be removed from it. The Customer quick action still shows them and tells you why removing is unavailable. If someone was added to the wrong tab after payment, the fix is on our side rather than on the till — tell us and we'll sort it out.
Drinks sold in sizes show the size on the tab line — Madrí (½ pint) — which is how you tell a round of halves from a round of pints when a tab has been running a while. See Drink sizes. Each line also shows the options picked (like Oat milk · Extra shot) and any item note under the name, and a note the guest left on the whole order sits in a yellow Order note banner at the top of the bill.
Getting to payment
When the table is ready to pay, open their tab and use the pay step. The buttons there — Pay with Card, Pay with Cash, Split order, Pay part of the bill, Discount — depend on the device's mode capabilities. Paying by cash with a note bigger than the bill shows a Change due pop-up after you confirm — tap Confirm once you've handed the change back, and the till moves on to the table-closed page. See Taking payment on the till.
