Misc Food & Drink — ring up something that isn't on the menu
Let chosen staff add a Misc Food or Misc Drink line with their own description and price — the kitchen sees what they typed.
Sometimes a guest orders something that isn't on the menu — a birthday cake plate, corkage, a one-off special. Misc Food and Misc Drink let staff ring it up with their own description and price, without anyone editing the menu first.
This is switched on for your account by Tillable. If you don't see Misc charges under Settings → Store settings, ask us.
Set it up
- Go to Settings → Store settings → Misc charges.
- Under Misc Food & Drink, switch on Misc Food, Misc Drink, or both.
- The list of your menus appears once a switch is on. Tick the menus each one should appear on.
- Under each menu you ticked, you can pick a Category. This is optional: it decides where those sales show in your reports (see In your reports below).
- Under Style, choose how the till shows them (this applies to both):
- Button: a Misc Food / Misc Drink button under the category list. This is the default.
- Category: a Misc entry in the category list. Tapping it shows Misc Food and Misc Drink as tiles.
- Product: Misc Food and Misc Drink show as tiles inside the category you picked for each menu, next to your other products. Each one you have switched on needs a category on at least one menu for this. Tills that have not updated yet keep showing the button.
- Tap Save.
- Go to Staff → Roles and tick Ring up Misc Food & Drink on the roles that should be allowed to use it. No role has it until you tick it.
- If you use kitchen screens or printers, open Menu routing and send Misc Food and Misc Drink to the right station, like any other product. The settings page reminds you until this is done — at a venue with more than one station, an unrouted misc item can't be sent to the kitchen.
On the till
- On a menu you ticked, tap Misc Food or Misc Drink. With the Category style, tap Misc in the category list first, then the tile. With the Product style, open the category you picked and tap the tile there.
- Type what it is — for example Birthday cake plate.
- Key in the price and tap Add. A price of £0 isn't allowed, and anything over £100 asks Are you sure? first.
The line shows on the bill as Misc Food (or Misc Drink) with your description underneath. The kitchen ticket prints the description under the line, so the kitchen knows exactly what to make.
On a full-size till screen, tap the line in the basket to change its description or price before sending.
Misc Food and Misc Drink don't show in the menu builder or in its Add existing product list. Choose their menus and categories on Settings → Store settings → Misc charges instead. Saving a menu in the builder leaves them where you put them.
A named product with no fixed price
Misc Food and Misc Drink are for one-off things staff describe as they go. If you ring the same thing often at a different amount each time — machine takings, a day-rate — give it its own product and switch on Price is set at the till. Same keypad, no "What is it?" box, and it reports under its own name. See Product price and VAT.
In your reports
Every misc sale is counted under one Misc Food or Misc Drink row, so your sales reports stay tidy however many different descriptions staff type.
Choose the category they count under
Until you pick a category, misc sales show under Uncategorised. To file them somewhere more useful, for example Misc Food under Mains, pick a Category under the menu on Settings → Store settings → Misc charges and tap Save. Sales you have already taken move too.
Your reports file each product under one category. If you use more than one menu, pick the same category on every menu so all your Misc Food sales land in one place. The page tells you when they don't match.
A menu only offers the categories that are on that menu. If the list is empty, add a category to the menu first.
