Sections

Group your tables into sections like Bar or Dining room, and understand how sections relate to floor plans and reporting.

A section is a named group of tables — Bar, Dining room, Terrace. It's how you organise tables so a floor plan and the terminal read cleanly, and so staff can find the right table fast.

Note

Sections need both Till and Table service switched on for your account. If you don't see them, ask your account manager.

From the sidebar, click Table Management, then Sections.

Create a section

  1. 1

    Click Create a Section

The button is in the top-right of the Sections page.

  2. 2

    Name it

Use a clear name like "Bar". If you have more than one location, you'll also be asked which one this section belongs to. With a single location that question does not appear.

  3. 3

    Optionally add tables now

Enter a number in Number of tables to create that many tables in one go, named after the section — for example "Bar 1", "Bar 2", and so on. You can place them on a floor plan afterwards. Leave it blank to add tables later.

The Sections list shows each section with a count of how many tables belong to it.

When a section auto-generates tables, the names it produces skip anything already in use — table names are unique across your whole venue, so "Bar 1" cannot exist twice even in two different rooms. To add a row of tables to a section that already exists, use Add several tables in the floor plan builder, which shows you the names before it creates them. To add just one, use the + beside the section in the builder's tray; it carries on the section's own naming.

How sections relate to locations and floor plans

Locations only enter the picture if you run more than one. With a single location none of the grouping, filtering or picking below is shown to you.

  • A section belongs to one location. On the list, sections are grouped by location, with an Unassigned group for any section with no location.
  • A section can appear on any floor plan in its location. When you open a floor plan in the builder, that location's sections feed the tray of tables you can place.
  • Moving a section to another location moves its tables with it.

So the relationship is: a location has sections; a section has tables; a floor plan (also tied to a location) is where you arrange those tables on a canvas.

Sections and reporting

Sections are a way to organise tables, not a reporting dimension. Your reports filter by location and, where you have them, by floor plan — not by section. Sales roll up to the location they happened at. If you need revenue broken out by part of the room, that comes from your floor plan and location structure, not from sections.

Managing your sections

On the Sections list you can:

  • Rename a section by clicking its name or the pencil icon.
  • Reorder sections by dragging them.
  • Move a section to another location by dragging it into that location's group — its tables follow.
  • Delete a section with the bin icon.

Heads up

Deleting a section does not delete its tables. The tables stay in your account but become ungrouped — they no longer belong to any section until you add them to one again.
