Issue a gift card manually

Create a gift card from the portal — the exception path, for support replacements, goodwill and comps.

Almost every card is created when it's sold at the till — those land on the Gift cards page automatically. Manual issue here is the exception, for cases like a support replacement, a goodwill or promotional gift, or comping a card without taking a payment.

  1. 1

    Click Issue gift card

The button is at the top of the Promotions → Gift cards page.

  2. 2

    Enter a value

Type any positive pound amount, e.g. 25.00. The card can be redeemed once for this value.

  3. 3

    Add a customer email (optional)

Stored on the card for your records. You can leave it blank.

  4. 4

    Click Issue gift card

This button is at the top of the page. It stays greyed out until you've entered a value, so a card is never issued by a stray click on a blank form — and it says Issue gift card, not just "Save", because it mints real value rather than editing settings. The page then shows the new code and its expiry date. Share the code with the customer — they can present it at any of your tills.

If something's wrong with what you entered — a value that isn't a number, for example — the page tells you and no card is created. You can correct it and try again; you'll never be shown a success message for a card that wasn't issued.

From the confirmation panel you can view the card's detail page, issue another, or go back to the list. Manual cards are marked "(manual)" in the list to distinguish them from till sales.

Note

A manually issued card adds to your outstanding liability just like a sold card — see Gift cards (portal).
