Set up discounts
Create the money-off rule your staff apply at the till.
A discount is a money-off rule you define once here. Your terminals download the discounts on their next sync, and staff pick one at checkout — there's nothing to set up on the device.
If you run more than one site, each terminal downloads the discounts scoped to its own site, plus everything scoped to All sites. A discount you scoped to one venue does not appear on another venue's till. Single site? Everything you create is All sites, so every terminal gets everything — no change. See Scope and limits.
You find them under Promotions → Discounts.
Where staff apply a discount
Staff can apply a discount at every checkout — the counter sale, the till, and now on a terminal at a table's bill (table service). Wherever they apply it, the discount comes off the amount charged and shows as a line on the total. If the discount has a passcode, staff enter it on the device before it applies — the same on the terminal table bill as everywhere else. The "Add discount" option only appears when the device's current mode allows discounts.
A discount on a table's bill is saved with the table, so every device sees it: another till, a till that has just restarted, and the card machine. If guests split the bill on the card machine, each share is worked out from the discounted total. To take a discount off, tap it on the bill — it comes off on every device. Once part of a split bill has been paid, the discount can't be changed; staff are told so on screen.
Create a discount
- 1
Open Discounts and click New discount
The button is in the top-right of the Discounts page.
- 2
Give it a name
The name is what staff see on the till — for example "Staff 10%" or "Lunch deal". Keep it clear.
- 3
Choose the type and value
Pick one of the four types (see Discount types and passcodes). Fixed types ask for a value; variable types don't.
- 4
Choose who can apply it
If you use staff roles, a Who can apply this list shows every role, all ticked to start with. Untick the roles that shouldn't see this discount on the till — a "Manager 50%" for managers only, say. You have to leave at least one role ticked, so a discount can never be created that nobody can use. A role marked "cannot apply discounts yet" needs Apply discounts switched on under Roles and permissions before the tick does anything. No staff roles, or staff sign-in switched off? You won't see this section, and every discount is available to everyone.
- 5
Decide if it needs a passcode
Turn on Require passcode at checkout and pick one of your passcodes from the passcode library. Staff enter it on the till before the discount applies.
- 6
Save
You're returned to the Discounts list. The discount is active and reaches tills on their next sync.
Note
Who sees what on the till. A signed-in staff member only sees the discounts their role was given. If their role has none, the discount button opens with a message saying a manager can hand them one. The same choice can be made from the role's side — ticking Apply discounts on a role opens the list of discounts — and both places show the same answer. Added 17 September 2026; every discount and role from before then keeps exactly the access it had.
Manage existing discounts
The Discounts list groups your discounts by status and gives each one a status
filter and a search box. From a row's … menu, or by selecting several rows
and using the bar at the bottom, you can:
- Activate — make it available on the tills.
- Deactivate — keep it but stop it showing at checkout.
- Archive — tuck it away for later. Archived discounts can be restored.
- Delete — remove it for good. Tills stop showing it on their next sync.
Click any row to open it and edit its name, type, value, scope, passcode setting or who can apply it. If you use staff roles, a Staff access column shows how many roles can apply each discount, and flags No staff access on any discount no role can use — open it and tick a role to fix that.
Heads up
Deleting can't be undone. If you might want it back, deactivate or archive instead.
