Sign staff out automatically

Sign out whoever is on the till if nobody has touched it for a while, so an account left open can't be used by someone else.

It's busy, someone gets called away, and the till is left signed in as them. The next person to walk up rings a round through under their name — or does something their own role wouldn't allow.

Sign staff out when the till is left alone closes that gap. If nobody touches the till for the time you choose, whoever is signed in is signed out and the sign-in screen comes back, with a line saying why.

Turning it on

Modes → pick a mode → Staff → Sign staff out when the till is left alone.

It starts at 60 seconds. Change it to anything from 15 seconds to an hour. It only does something when Require staff to sign in is on — without a sign-in screen, there's nothing to go back to.

What it won't interrupt

  • A bill or a payment. The countdown only runs on the till's main screen. Open a bill, take a card or split a payment and it waits — it never signs anyone out while a customer is paying.
  • A pop-up. Counting the cash drawer, picking a discount, quick actions — while any of those is open the countdown is paused, and it starts again from zero when it closes.
  • An order in progress. Being signed out works exactly like tapping your own name to sign out: anything half-rung is kept and comes back when that person signs in again.

Good to know

  • It's for tills. Handheld card terminals on the same mode aren't signed out.
  • The screen saver doesn't stop it. A till showing its screen saver is still a till left signed in.
  • If someone leaves the till inside a bill, it stays signed in until they (or someone) goes back to the main screen — then the countdown starts.
  • If you also run Basket follows the staff member, being signed out automatically is one of the moments an unsent round becomes available on another till. The round isn't lost — it's waiting for that person wherever they next sign in.
