Set up click and collect
Choose your public web address, confirm the till has the Takeaway capability, and turn online orders on.
Click and collect lets customers browse your menu, pick a collection time, and submit an order online. They pay at the till when they arrive — there's no online payment. Open Click and collect in the sidebar.
Note
Click and collect must be switched on for your account for this to appear. If you don't see it in the sidebar, see Request and enable click and collect.
Before you go live: the Takeaway capability
Collect orders are takeaway orders. For them to reach your till and be settled, the till's active mode must have the Takeaway capability switched on. Check this before you go live:
- Go to Store settings → Modes, open the mode your till runs, and confirm Takeaway is on. See Modes.
- With Takeaway off, online orders are still taken, but they won't appear on that till — with no error to tell you why.
Check it before anyone sees it
Every settings page can show you a live preview of what a customer will actually see — your menu, your colours, your logo.
Press Preview in the top bar to open it. On a wide screen it sits beside your settings so you can edit and watch at the same time; on a narrower one it opens over the page. Press the button again, or Esc, to put it away.
It starts closed, so the settings have the full width until you ask for it.
It updates as you type, before you save, so you can try a colour or hide a photo and see the result without publishing anything.
It opens on the page the section you're in affects. From Payment you land on the checkout, from Tables on the table screen, and everywhere else on the menu — so you're looking at the thing you're changing instead of walking there. The row of buttons above the preview moves it to another page without you leaving the section you're editing.
- It is the real customer page, not a picture of one. What you see is what they get.
- The checkout has a dish in it already — your own first one — because an empty basket shows £0 and hides the tip row, which is usually the thing you came to look at.
- Ordering and paying are switched off inside it. You can add things to a basket and walk all the way to the confirmation screen; no order is ever created and no card is ever charged.
- Phone / Tablet / Desktop switch the size, because your page looks genuinely different on each. The preview shrinks to fit whatever room it has, so it stays whole on a smaller laptop rather than running off the edge.
- New tab opens the preview on its own, so you can put it on a second screen and keep editing beside it. It keeps updating as you type.
Note
A menu can be ticked here and still show nothing to a customer, because every dish also has its own switch under Items → the product → Availability. If the preview looks emptier than you expect, that is where to look.
Note
Collection times are the one thing you have to save first. Slot length, lead time and cut-off come from the live page, so the preview shows the times you last saved rather than the ones you're editing. Everything else — colours, banner, menus, dish detail, when guests pay — updates as you type.
Turn it on
Go to Click and collect → Settings.
- 1
Choose your public web address
In the Your ordering page card, set the Web address that goes after the prefix shown next to the field. It must be 3 to 48 characters, lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, and start and end with a letter or digit.
The prefix depends on which journey you're setting up: click & collect pages live at
/collect/, and Collect now pages at/collect-now/. They're separate addresses, so the same word can be used for both. - 2
Switch online orders on
Tick Accepting online orders. The toggle stays greyed out until there's something in the address field.
- 3
Save
Click Save in the bar at the top of the screen. Your page is now live, and the screen shows the full address with Copy and Open buttons.
If you have more than one site, each one gets its own collect page — its own address and on/off switch — under your main address.
Saving your changes
There is one Save button, in the bar at the top of the screen, and it covers this whole page — your web address, the Accepting online orders switch, and everything under Collection times. The separate Save buttons that used to sit inside those cards are gone.
- It stays greyed out until you actually change something, so a click always means "commit what I just edited".
- While you have unsaved edits, the top bar shows Unsaved changes.
- One click saves the lot together, so you can set your address and adjust the Advanced timings in the same visit — first-time setup included.
Note
The per-site collect pages (if you have more than one location) keep their own Save button on each site's card, because each one commits just that site's address and switch.
Heads up
Saving replaces what's stored with what's on screen. So if the screen ever shows an empty web address, or timings you don't recognise, reload before you save rather than retyping — see "We couldn't load your click-and-collect settings".
If your portal has an "Online ordering" menu
Newer accounts manage click and collect under Online ordering → Click and collect instead of the page described above, and that page is laid out differently: instead of one long list of cards, the settings are split into sections, with a row of buttons across the top to move between them.
| Section | What's in it | |---|---| | Menus | Which menus guests see, how the menu is laid out, dish photos, allergens, and the popular row | | Branding | Which branding profile this page uses, your logo, and the banner | | Links | Your web address and its QR code | | Payment | When guests pay, tips, terms, and the marketing opt-in. Paying online uses the Tillable online-payments account set up on the shared Settings page | | Availability | Pausing orders, and your collection times | | Locations | Each location's own address and on/off switch. Only if you have more than one location |
You land on Menus. Tap any button in the row to switch section, and change what you need in any of them.
One Save covers the lot. Your changes are kept as you move between sections, so you can edit your menus, your branding and your payment settings in one go and press Save once at the end. While anything is unsaved the top of the page says so.
Note
The on/off switch sits at the top of the page, next to Save, on every section. It shows Live in green when your page is taking orders and Off in grey when it isn't. It saves the moment you flip it — there's no Save to press afterwards.
Your web address is created for you. The first time anything on this page saves, we make an address from your business name if you haven't set one. You can change it whenever you like under Links. That's why you can open Payment first and save straight away — the error "Choose a public URL slug first." can no longer happen.
Heads up
Changing your web address changes your public link and its QR code. Anything already printed with the old code stops working.
Choosing the colours guests see
Under Branding, three settings decide the colour of each surface on your ordering page:
| Setting | What it colours | |---|---| | Page | The background behind everything | | Cards | The panel each dish sits on | | Top bar | The bar that stays at the top as guests scroll |
Each one offers the same five choices: White, Black, or one of your three brand colours — Primary, Secondary or Accent. Every option shows a small square of the colour and its code, so you can see what you are picking without opening your branding.
They are three separate choices on purpose. A white bar over a coloured page frames the menu; a coloured bar over white cards puts your brand at the top and leaves the dishes clean. Neither was possible when one setting drove them all.
Note
The brand options follow your Branding, they don't copy it. If you pick Primary and later change your primary colour under More → Branding, your ordering page changes with it. White and Black are always plain white and plain black, whatever your brand colours are.
Text, dividers and buttons adjust themselves to stay readable on whatever you choose, so a dark page gets light writing and a bright one gets dark writing. You don't have to set them.
Heads up
Accent falls back to your primary colour if you have never set an accent. The two options then show the same colour code, and picking Accent will look like nothing happened. Set an accent under More → Branding first.
Letting customers leave a note
Let guests add a note puts one box on the checkout — "Anything we should know?" — for the whole order. It is off unless you turn it on.
Use it for the things that are about the order rather than a dish: where the customer is sitting, how to find them, an occasion. Notes are limited to 280 characters, and they show on the kitchen ticket and on the order in your Click and collect list.
Heads up
It is not the allergy question. Allergies have their own step at checkout, with a policy behind it you control — a note typed in this box bypasses all of that. The box tells customers so, and the allergy question always appears above it, but treat any allergy mentioned in a note as something to ask about rather than something you have been told properly.
Collect now works the same way
If you also use Collect now, it has the same row of sections, the same switch at the top, and the same settings as click and collect. Its settings are its own — turning one on doesn't turn the other on, and each has its own web address.
The one difference is inside Availability. Collect now has no slot timings, because collection is always straight away: the customer gets a 3-digit order number instead of picking a time. You can still pause ordering there, and it has its own opening-hours picker — opening hours are the one rule Collect now does not skip.
Opening hours
Pickup slots are only offered inside your opening hours. You build the hours themselves under My business → Opening hours, as named profiles ("All day", "Lunch only"), and add festive overrides there for special dates.
Which profile click and collect follows is set under Availability → Ordering hours. Leave it on your normal opening hours and it takes orders whenever you're open, which is what it has always done. Pick a profile and it follows that instead, so you can stop taking collection orders at 20:00 while the counter stays open until close.
If you have more than one location, you'll see one picker per location. Set them separately: your Kingston branch can take collection orders until 20:00 while Wimbledon takes them until close. A location you haven't changed follows its own opening hours.
Collect now has the same pickers on its own Availability tab, and the two are separate. Setting one does not change the other.
Note
Dates you've closed a location still apply. If Wimbledon is closed for a bank holiday, it's closed for click and collect that day too, whichever profile you picked.
If a location has no opening hours at all, nobody can order there. Customers get no times to choose from.
Note
You can pause online orders at any time by turning off Accepting online orders. Existing orders stay visible in your list, but the public page returns a "not available" message and no new orders come in.
What's next
- Slot timing and lead times — how often slots appear, minimum lead time, cutoff and kitchen fire-ahead.
- Manage collect orders — the order list for the day and its states.
- The collect page — what customers see.
- Click and collect troubleshooting — toggle won't turn on, no slots, missing items, orders not reaching the till.
