Settle a collect order at the till
Find an incoming collection order on the till when the customer arrives, take payment, and close it out.
Click and collect has no online payment — every order is paid at the till when the customer arrives. The portal's Click and collect order list is for watching orders come in (Manage collect orders); the actual settling happens on the till device.
Note
Click and collect must be switched on, and the till's active mode must have the Takeaway capability on. If collect orders aren't reaching the till, see Troubleshooting.
Where collect orders appear on the till
On the till, collect orders show up in the Order Centre — the same place your dine-in and bar tabs live. A collect order is a takeaway order with a pickup time, so:
- Use the Takeaway filter chip at the top of the Order Centre to show just the collection and takeaway orders, hiding dine-in tables.
- A collect order that came in from your online page carries a Web label and its pickup time, so you can tell it apart from a walk-up takeaway you rang up yourself.
- Each card shows the item count and the total, and a takeaway card keeps its pickup time where a table or bar tab shows its name ("Table 7", "Tom’s tab"). Search by the customer's name to find their order.
- If your venue has designed its own cards in the portal (Till Order Cards), a collect order's card shows what that design includes. For example, Sophie’s takeaway with Pickup 18:30 and a Web tag. A detail with nothing to show is left off rather than shown blank. The cards line up the way that design says (tidy rows, packed columns or all one size). See Till troubleshooting.
- The card's chip carries the order number the customer was given (TAKEAWAY #8415), so you can match the person at the counter to their order. It never resets, so it won't clash with an earlier order.
- A card with an amber outline and a Bill requested label is waiting for payment. A card with a dotted outline and No items yet is an open order with nothing on it.
- A card can also carry a Not sent yet label. That never happens to a collect order from your online page — those arrive over the internet, so they are already on every till. It appears on a walk-up takeaway a member of staff rang on this till while it had no connection, which is sitting in the same Takeaway list. See Till troubleshooting.
Note
Don't see a Takeaway chip at all? The till's active mode doesn't have the Takeaway capability switched on. Turn it on under Store settings → Modes — see Modes.
Note
Where a drink is sold in sizes, the order line names the size alongside any options — for example Madrí (½ pint, Lime) — so staff can check the order matches what the customer asked for before settling.
If the customer added a note when they ordered, it shows in a yellow Order note banner at the top of the bill, and each line shows its options and any item note.
Settle it when the customer arrives
- 1
Find the order
Open the Order Centre and tap the Takeaway filter. Find the customer's order by their name or pickup time. There's also a search if the list is long.
- 2
Open the order
Tap the card. The order opens in the tab detail view, showing the items the customer ordered online. You can add or change items here if they want something extra.
- 3
Take payment
Charge the order the same way as any sale — card or cash. There's no separate "settle collect order" button; it's the normal till payment flow.
- 4
Done
Once payment succeeds the order closes and moves to Settled.
What changes after settling
- The order's state becomes Settled. It drops out of the live list on both the till and the portal's Click and collect screen, collapsing into the Settled section there. See Manage collect orders for the full list of states.
- The sale records like any other, so it appears in your Transactions log and your Reports.
Common questions
The customer is here but I can't find their order. Check you're on the right date in the list — the till and portal both show one day at a time. Then filter to Takeaway and look by name or pickup time. If it's genuinely not there, the order may not have reached the till — see Troubleshooting.
Can I settle a collect order from the portal? No. The portal's Click and collect screen lets you watch orders and cancel them, but payment is always taken on the till device.
The customer wants to add an item when they arrive. Add it on the till after you open their order, then take payment for the new total. The online order is just a starting basket.
