Product photo and abbreviation
Add a customer-facing description and image, and a short till tile label — where each one shows.
A product carries a customer-facing description and image, plus a short tile label for staff. Each has its own field on the product editor.
Description and image
The description shows to customers ordering via click-and-collect or QR only — it never appears on the till or on receipts.
The image shows on those customer channels and on the till's menu tiles, so staff can spot items at a glance. Every till shows it, whatever the size of the screen. A product with no photo shows the tile label instead, and each till can hide images from its own Settings ("Hide product image / abbreviation") if a team prefers denser text-only tiles.
With images showing, a till tile is the picture plus the product name — the price isn't on the tile itself. Switch images off on a till and you get the compact tile with the name and price together instead. Images never print on receipts.
- Description — a short line customers see next to the product. Skip it for staff-facing items.
- Image — one photo of the item.
Fill images in bulk with AI
Adding photos one product at a time is slow on a big catalogue. From Items → Products, tick the products you want, choose Edit → Find images with AI, and the portal searches openly licensed images on Wikimedia Commons for each one — brand logos for branded drinks (a lager, a stout), food photography for dishes — and picks the best match for you.
You review every suggestion in a grid before anything is saved: untick any you don't want, then Add images. Products that already have a photo are left alone unless you tick "Also suggest replacements". If nothing suitable is found for a product it is simply skipped — you can always add its photo by hand on the product page.
Tile label — for the till
The tile label is a short abbreviation (up to 8 characters) used where space is tight, like the till tile. If you leave it blank the till falls back to the full name.
Use it when the full name won't fit or reads awkwardly at tile size — e.g. "Flat White" as tile "FLAT WT". On a till menu tile it fills the coloured block that sits where the photo would go, so it's worth setting on any product you haven't got an image for.
Heads up
The 8-character limit is enforced everywhere a tile label can be set. The product editor stops you typing past it, and a bulk import rejects the row and tells you which one — shorten it in your spreadsheet and upload again. If a longer label reached your catalogue before this was enforced, the menu page will name the products so you can fix them; see Items troubleshooting.
Favourites
Show in Favourites pins the product to the Favourites strip on the till's home view, for quick reordering of your top sellers. It's a one-tick toggle on the product editor.
Your photo is what shop customers see
If the product is in your online shop, the photo here is the one on its shop card and its product page — for many customers it is the only picture of the item they ever see. A product with no photo still sells; it just shows without one.
The abbreviation is for the till's buttons and is never shown in the shop.
