Account setup — common questions

Quick answers to the questions merchants hit while setting up their account — modes, bank info, locations vs modes, branding sets, logo sizes and email signatures.

Short answers to the questions that come up most while setting up your account. Each links to the full article if you want the detail.

Do I have to set up modes before adding a location?

No. A location saves fine without any modes — the Default mode section doesn't even appear until you've created a mode, and devices fall back to the standard mode in the meantime. See Locations.

Is bank information required to add a venue?

No. The whole Bank information section is optional — you can add the transfer account and tag now or later. The only field that's required to save a location is its business name. See Locations.

What's the difference between a location and a mode?

A location is a site you trade from (a shop, café, van). A mode is how a device behaves — which screens and actions it shows. One location can have devices running different modes. See Locations and Modes.

My venue trades past midnight. Why is Saturday night split across two days?

By default every report cuts the day at midnight, so a sale at 1:30am on Sunday lands on Sunday. If a venue regularly trades after midnight, ask us to switch on business day for your account. Each location then gets a Business day starts at setting (for example 03:00). Late sales and the cash count then stay on the night they belong to. See The location detail form.

Do I need a separate branding set per venue?

No, not by default. One default branding set covers every location. Add extra sets only when different sites need different logos or colours, then assign a set per location. See Branding.

What's the largest logo I can upload?

Up to 30 MB, as a JPG, PNG or WebP; a big photo is shrunk automatically as it uploads. A square image (around 500×500 pixels) looks best. The same limit applies to your cover image and to your booking-email signature images. See Branding.

Upload it once and it is prepared everywhere it is needed: your customer-facing pages, printed receipts, and the loyalty card your members add to Apple or Google Wallet. A transparent background works best on the wallet card. See Put your logo on wallet cards.

Can I put my award badges on my booking emails?

Yes. Open Account & settings → Branding, open your branding set, and use Email signature — up to six images shown at the bottom of every booking email. Write a short description for anything that matters: most email apps hide pictures until the reader taps "show images", so for a lot of your guests the description is all they get. See Branding.

How do I start taking card payments?

Card processing is set up for you during onboarding — it isn't a self-serve toggle in the portal. See Set up payment processing.
