Turn on table service and QR ordering

How table service, the till and QR ordering get switched on, what appears once they are, and the order to set everything up.

This is the orientation article for table service — start here. It explains how the feature gets switched on, how to confirm it's on, and the order to set the pieces up. The detailed how-to for each piece is its own article, linked below.

How it gets switched on

Table service, the till and QR ordering are paid modules. There's no self-serve toggle in the portal to turn them on — they're enabled on your account by the Tillable team. To get them, ask your account manager (or contact support) and say which you want:

  • Till — the point-of-sale module.
  • Table service — tables, sections, floor plans, tabs.
  • QR ordering — customers scanning a table code to order from their phone.

"Paid module" just means it's a feature added to your plan rather than something every account has by default; your account manager confirms the cost and switches it on.

How to confirm it's on

Once a module is enabled, new items appear in your sidebar. That's how you check it worked:

  • Floor plans and Sections appear inside Table Management when Till and Table service are both on. (They used to sit under a separate Till section; that section no longer exists.)
  • Table Management appears when Table service is on, holding Tables Served (the latest bill and today's tables; the full list of sales is under Reports → Transactions), Tables and Tabs.
  • Table board (the live status board) comes with a separate module called Table Studio. Ask for Table Studio as well. It's split out because the board can only show food going out if your kitchen has a screen to clear tickets on; a print-only kitchen would get a board stuck on "In kitchen". See The table board.
  • Table Ordering QR Code (under Table Management) appears when QR ordering is on.

If you've asked for a module and these still aren't showing, see Tables, Tabs, Floor plans or QR settings don't appear.

The order to set everything up

Once the modules are on, set the pieces up in this sequence — each uses the one before it:

  1. Items and menus (under Items) — nothing sells, and QR ordering shows nothing, until you have a menu.
  2. Tables (Table Management → Tables) — the real tables in your venue. See Set up your tables.
  3. Sections (Table Management → Sections) — group tables like Bar or Dining room. See Sections.
  4. Floor plans (Table Management → Floor plans) — lay the tables out on a canvas. See Floor plans.
  5. A mode with Dine in / Floor plan (Store settings → Modes) — what makes a device show the tables. See Modes.
  6. Tabs (Table Management → Tabs) — running bills, or pay-as-you-go. See Open tabs.
  7. Per-table QR codes (Table Management → Tables, and settings under Table Ordering QR Code) — optional. See Table ordering by QR code.
