End of Day — daily totals and weekly summary

The cashing-up report — daily and weekly totals with a Card / Cash / Tips payment-type breakdown, VAT and net figures, reconciled by location.

End of Day is your cashing-up and look-back report — daily and weekly totals, plus a custom range with a per-day breakdown. Open it from the Reports hub.

Three views

Tabs at the top switch between:

  • Daily — the last 14 days, one row per day (the default).
  • Weekly — the last 8 weeks (Monday–Sunday, UK), one row per week.
  • Custom — pick a From and To date; you get the total for the range plus a per-day breakdown.

What each row shows

For each day (or week): the sales total, a payment-type breakdown of Card, Cash, Tips, Gift card and Refunds, and the VAT and net-of-VAT figures — so you can reconcile takings and tax in one place. Tap a row to expand the breakdown.

Tips are shown on their own line, separate from Card and Cash. Gratuity is held for your staff, carries no VAT, and is not part of the day's total or your sales figures — Card, Cash (and Gift card) on their own add back up to the sales total. Every total here is after discounts: a discount is never counted as a sale. The Tips line appears only on days with tips. For the full tips picture — card-vs-cash split, tipped-order count, tips as a share of sales — use the Tips report.

Refunds are shown on their own line too. A sale that's refunded later still counts in full in Card (or Cash) on the day it was taken. The money you gave back appears as Refunds on the day you made the refund, which may be a different day from the sale. This matches your card provider's statement, where payments and refunds are separate lines, so your takings reconcile line by line. The Refunds line appears only on days with a refund.

Venues that trade past midnight

If your location's business day starts after midnight (set on the location page — see The location detail form), each row is that business day, not the calendar day. With a 03:00 start, a sale at 1:30am on Sunday and the cash count made at 1:45am both appear under Saturday — the night they belong to — instead of splitting the night across two rows with a cash variance on each. With the standard midnight start, rows are calendar days exactly as before.

The top row is the business day that's still trading. At 1:30am it's the night before, not a new, empty day.

Reconciling your takings

Heads up

End of Day reconciles to your real takings only when the Location filter is applied (or you have a single site). A floor plan filter shows table-service sales only and will read low — don't cash up against it. Use Location.

This is the report where the floor-vs-location difference bites hardest, because you're matching it against the cash and card in the drawer. If your End-of-Day total doesn't match what you banked, check you're not filtered to a floor plan, and see Troubleshooting reports.

Filters apply

The Terminals, Location and Floor plan filters all work here. For cashing up, filter to the Location you're reconciling (or leave it on all terminals if you're a single site).

The blind cash count

If your tills are set to End of day cash-up (Settings → Cash drawer), your staff count the drawer blind — they're never shown what the system thinks should be in there, so there's no figure to count toward. When they submit, the till prints a docket showing Cash declared, Cash collected and the variance.

Expanding a day here shows the same three figures:

  • Cash declared — what was counted, less the float for that drawer.
  • Cash collected — what the till says should be there: cash sales, plus anything recorded as Cash in, minus anything recorded as Cash out.
  • Cash variance — the difference. Negative means the drawer was short.

Count attempts appears when a drawer was counted more than once. That's the useful signal: a first count that was £50 short and a second that balanced tells you something a single figure never would. Every attempt is kept — they can't be edited or deleted, by anyone.

When more than one drawer is counted

If a day has more than one count — each till's drawer closed on its own, say — the day shows a total first, then one row for each count:

  • The total (All cash ups) adds up Cash declared, Cash collected and the variance across every count that was accepted.
  • Each row names the drawer — the till's name, or All tills for a count of the whole venue — with its own declared, cash taken and variance. A till that has since been removed reads Unknown till.
  • Over tolerance is marked on the row of a drawer that was out — but only on a day the venue as a whole is out (see When a variance gets flagged). It is never put on another till's row.
  • 2 attempts (or more) on a row means that drawer was recounted. Five tills closing once each is five rows, not five attempts.
  • A drawer that was counted but never accepted reads Not completed and is left out of the total.
  • Accepted automatically means the count was closed without tapping Done (on an older till version) and nobody recounted that drawer in the next 6 hours. It counts like any other, so its cash isn't counted a second time the next night.

If the till printed a venue summary — the last receipt once every till is closed — the total is headed Venue summary and shows that receipt's figures instead. It can carry one extra line, Cash not in any till: cash taken on a device that isn't a till (a handheld, for example). No drawer holds it, so it shows up as variance on the venue total — it only appears when there is some.

Heads up

Record Cash in and Cash out as you go. Money taken out of the till for petty cash, a supplier or staff tips is counted as missing unless it was recorded on the till (Admin → Cash out). Recorded movements are subtracted from Cash collected automatically and printed on the docket, so the count still balances.

"FLOAT NOT SET"

If you haven't set a float, no variance is calculated — the report and the printed docket both say FLOAT NOT SET instead. This is deliberate: an unset float would make every variance wrong by exactly the float amount, and that number ends up on a printed docket with a staff member's name on it. Set the float in Settings → Cash drawer → Float in each drawer, then count again.

When several drawers were counted and any one of them had no float, the day's total shows Float not set for Cash declared and Cash variance rather than adding up only the drawers that did — a total that quietly leaves a drawer out is worse than no total.

When a variance gets flagged

A day is flagged red only when the venue's total variance is larger than the tolerance you set. If you haven't set a tolerance, nothing is ever flagged — a tolerance of zero would flag every count that's a penny out, which is most of them. Set it to the amount you'd actually want to hear about.

The total is what counts, not each drawer. Cash doesn't have to go back in the drawer it came out of: take £50 on the patio till and drop the note in the bar's box, and the patio reads £50 short while the bar reads £50 over. Nothing is missing, so the day is not flagged. Both drawers still show their own figures when you open the row — that's where the money ended up, and it's worth seeing — but neither is painted red.

The other way round, it's stricter than it looks: three drawers £15 short each is £45 missing from the venue, and that flags even though no single drawer is over a £20 tolerance.

Venues are judged one at a time. A till short at one site is never cancelled out by a till over at another — they're different buildings.

If any drawer in a venue had no float set, the venue's total can't be worked out, so the day is not flagged either way. The row says Float not set rather than guessing.

Flagged counts also appear on the End of day dashboard tile, each with the name of the drawer that was out. The tile still lists each drawer that was over on its own, so it can mention a drawer on a day the report doesn't flag.

If you have more than one site

When you run more than one site, everything on this page follows the site picked under the Tillable logo: the takings and the cash counts and venue summaries. On All sites you see every site you can see.

On All sites, open a day and its cash counts are shown one site at a time, each under the site's name, with that site's own cash declared, cash collected and variance. One site's venue summary never stands in for another site's counts. The takings on the day row are still the total for all your sites.

Sharing, exporting and printing

A Share button next to the "Reports" back link copies a link to this exact view (tab, filters and date range included). Each tab (Daily, Weekly, Custom) has its own Export CSV button in its section header, downloading that view's rows — including the Card/Cash/Tips/Gift card/Refunds split even where it's only shown on expanding a row. This is one of the two reports (with Sales) you can print — printing shows just the totals, hiding the filters and navigation, for a clean hand-off to your accountant or bookkeeper.
