Sales report — reading your figures
Headline totals, payment-type breakdown, the comparison chart, top items and the per-item size and service-mode drill-down.
The Sales report is your headline view for a period — what you took, how it was paid, how it compares with last time, and what sold. Open it from the Reports hub.
Choose the period
Tabs across the top set the window: 1 d, 1 wk, 1 mo, 3 mos, 1 yr, and Custom. A preset is a rolling window ending now (1 d = today). Custom reveals From and To date pickers; it runs by whole days to the end date you choose, so to follow today as it happens use 1 d instead.
The headline figures
The Sales summary grid shows:
- Sales — what your customers were charged, after discounts, VAT still in, tips left out.
- VAT collected — the tax inside your sales.
- Sales excl. VAT — Sales with VAT stripped out.
- Number of sales — how many transactions.
- Average Sale — Sales divided by that count.
- Discounts — total knocked off by discounts, shown on its own.
Every sales figure on this report is after discounts, including the chart and the Top items list. There is no before-discounts total: Discounts is already taken out of Sales, so don't subtract it again.
Full definitions live in Reports terminology.
The comparison
Next to the period tabs, a vs previous / vs last year switch picks what you're comparing against:
- vs previous (the default) compares like-for-like: 1 day compares to the same day last week (this Friday vs last Friday — never Friday vs Thursday), and longer periods compare to the matching block before them (last week vs the week before, and so on).
- vs last year compares the same stretch a year ago — day and week views line up on the same days of the week; month-and-longer views line up on the calendar dates.
Each headline figure shows its change against that window (an up or down arrow, the signed percentage, and the previous value), and the Sales chart plots both periods — by the hour for 1 day, by the day for longer periods. The current period is the dark line, the comparison the grey one. If the comparison window has no sales, you'll see "no data to compare" rather than a misleading percentage.
Sales by payment type
A breakdown of Total Collected into Card, Cash and — once a gift card has been redeemed — Gift card. The rows add up to Total Collected.
Top items
A list of your best-selling items, which you can flip between Sales (value) and Count (quantity). Tap an item to drill in.
You can drill in with one terminal picked, or with all terminals — the usual starting view. If you tick some of your terminals but not all, the rows stop being tappable: the drill-down answers for one terminal or for the whole venue, and quietly showing you the venue total under a two-terminal filter would be a bigger number than the row you clicked.
Item drill-down by size
If you sell a drink in more than one size, the drill-down opens with a By size breakdown — how many pints against how many halves, the money each took, and each one's share.
- Sizes come from the size that was rung on the sale, so renaming or deleting a size later never rewrites your history.
- No size collects everything sold without a size: card-machine sales, offers, and anything rung before that drink had sizes. It always sits at the bottom of the list. Seeing sales there is normal, not a fault.
- The section only appears once there is a real size to show. If you don't sell anything by size, the page looks exactly as it always has.
With no terminal picked, this is your venue-wide answer: of all the Madrí we poured this week, how much was halves?
Item drill-down by service mode
Drilling into an item shows how it sold across the service modes:
- Counter — rung up at the till, no tab.
- Dine-in — opened on a table from the floor plan.
- Takeaway — click-and-collect with a pickup time.
- QR ordering — guest scanned a table code.
- Other — bar-tab style, no table/pickup/QR.
The drill-down keeps the Location you were filtered to, and shows its own Location dropdown so you can switch site without going back. Change it here and the "Sales report" link takes you back to that site's report. Accounts with one location see no dropdown.
Filters apply to everything
The Terminals, Location, Floor plan, Source and Category filters at the top narrow every figure on the page at once. Remember a floor plan filter reads low (table-service sales only); use Location to reconcile. Source uses the same five service-mode buckets as the item drill-down below; Category rolls a top-level category's subcategories up automatically and never matches a Bundle (Offer). See Filtering reports.
Sharing and exporting
A Share button next to the "Reports" back link copies a link to this exact view (period, filters and comparison mode included) so anyone who opens it sees the same figures. Top items has its own Export CSV button (beside the Sales/Count toggle) that downloads the full list you're looking at. This report — along with End of Day — can also be printed as a clean handover for your accountant: printing hides the filters and navigation, leaving just the figures.
Two things this report does NOT show
Note
Refunds aren't reflected here — the reporting data doesn't model them. And there's no staff/operator column or grouping anywhere in the Sales report; sales can't be broken down by staff member. See the Reports FAQ.
