When a menu shows

Give a menu its own days and times — for example a second menu that is only on certain evenings. Outside those times staff can't pick it on a till or card machine.

A menu can have its own hours: the days and times it is on. It is how you run a second menu on chosen nights — say Wednesdays from 8pm to 11pm — while your main menu covers the rest of the week.

Heads up

Tills and card machines follow a menu's hours after their app update. On an older app, a menu with hours can still be picked from the menu switcher at any time.

What staff see on the till and card machine

  • During its hours the menu comes on by itself on the till (once the order on screen is empty), and staff can pick it from Switch menu.
  • Outside its hours it is not in Switch menu or the till's menu buttons, so it can't be picked by mistake — a Wednesday-night menu is simply not there on a Thursday.
  • If a till or card machine is still on it when its hours end, it goes back to your normal menu as soon as the current order is empty, and shows "Back on …". It never switches in the middle of an order, and works without wifi.

Set a menu's hours

  1. 1

    Open the menu's settings

Go to Items → Menus and click the settings icon on the menu's card.

  2. 2

    Open When this menu shows

The first card, When this menu shows, sums up the menu's hours. Click Set when this menu shows.

  3. 3

    Choose the hours

Click New hours for this menu to give the menu hours of its own, or pick an existing hours profile under Use these hours.

  4. 4

    Add the times

Pick the days, a start and an end time, and click Add hours. A day can have more than one window, and a window can run past midnight — set the end earlier than the start and it "ends next day".

To take the hours away again, choose No hours — use it any time.

Only between certain dates

Under Only between these dates, pick a start and an end date and click Save dates — useful for a term, a season or a run of events. Outside those dates the menu's hours don't apply. Every week removes the dates again.

A window that runs past midnight counts on the day it starts: a Wednesday 10pm–2am window whose last date is a Wednesday still runs until 2am on the Thursday.

Things to know

  • Only tills and card machines follow a menu's hours. QR table ordering and click & collect keep showing the menu they are set to.
  • A menu with hours but no times added is never on, so it won't appear on tills or card machines until you add its times.
  • A till or card machine that hasn't picked a menu yet starts on the menu whose name comes first alphabetically. If a menu with hours is named so it comes first, those devices start on it, whatever its hours. The page tells you which menu that is right now.
  • Hours can be shared. If the hours you pick are also your opening hours, a booking setup's hours or another menu's hours, the page says so — changing the times changes them everywhere. Use New hours for this menu to keep them separate.
  • The "right now" line uses your business's time zone, not your computer's.
