Take card payments on the card machine (unintegrated mode)
Stop the till sending card payments to a card machine — staff key the amount in and take the money on the machine instead, then record the sale on the till.
Normally, when staff take a card payment on the till, the till sends the amount straight to a card machine and the machine wakes up asking for the card.
Unintegrated mode turns that off. The card machine just sits on its normal keypad screen. Staff key the amount into it themselves, take the payment there, then tap the button on the till to record the sale and close the table.
Some venues prefer this — for example when the card machine needs to be carried around, or when it's easier for staff to work the machine directly.
What changes when it's on
- The till stops sending payments to the card machine. Every order offers Pay with card or Pay with cash, and nothing pops up on the machine.
- For a card payment, staff key the amount into the card machine and take the money there, then tap the button on the till to record the sale.
- Cash is unchanged. Cash sales work exactly as they do today.
- Card tips keyed on the machine won't show in your tip reports. A tip added on the card machine stays with the machine's own record of that payment.
Turning it on
- Go to More → Store settings → Unintegrated mode.
- Turn on Take card payments on the card machine.
Your devices pick the change up on their next check-in, usually within a minute. There's nothing to install and no need to restart anything.
If you don't see Unintegrated mode in your sidebar, it isn't switched on for your account — ask your account manager or Tillable support to enable it.
If the switch won't turn on
The switch is blocked while something is mid-payment, because turning it on at that moment would leave a payment stranded. The page tells you exactly what to fix, naming the device:
- A card machine is on the pay-at-counter screen. Take it off pay-at-counter first. In this mode the till never sends it a payment, so a machine left waiting on that screen would never be paid.
- A payment is still going through a card machine. Finish or cancel it on the till, then try again.
Clear whichever it names and the switch will work.
Turning it off is never blocked — you can always switch back to normal at any time.
"Some devices need updating"
You may see a note listing devices that are on an older version, or that we haven't heard from recently. This is only a warning and won't stop you turning the setting on. Those devices simply carry on sending payments to the card machine as normal until they're updated.
Checking your takings add up
Because the sale is recorded in two places — the till and the card machine — we match them up so the same money is only counted once in your reports.
Open Card machine reconciliation to see any single day. It is no longer a
tile on the Reports hub: follow the card machine reconciliation link on
the Unintegrated mode settings page (the one you turned it on from), or go straight to
/reports/unintegrated in your portal. It shows:
- Till — card sales: what staff recorded on the till.
- Card machine — taken: what the machine actually took, not counting tips.
- Whether the two match, and if not, by how much.
Underneath are the two lists that explain any difference:
- Taken on the card machine, with no till sale. This money was taken and does count as revenue — it just has no matching sale on the till. Usually a payment keyed straight into the machine.
- Recorded on the till, with no card machine payment. A card sale was recorded but we can't find the payment for it.
If a payment reached us late, press Re-run matching and we'll have another go at pairing that day up. It's safe to press more than once.
Tips taken on the card machine are shown separately on this page, because they don't appear in your tip reports.
