Screen profiles

Build a named, reusable set of screen-saver media once and assign it to any number of tills, instead of setting each till's screen saver one at a time.

Screen saver lets you set one photo, GIF, video or website per till. A screen profile goes a step further: build a named set of screen-saver media once, then assign it to any number of tills — useful if several tills should show the same thing, or you want to swap a whole look (a seasonal promotion, a happy-hour slate) across your estate in one move instead of editing every till by hand.

Building or editing a profile changes nothing on a live till by itself — it's just a new set of media sitting unused until you assign a till to it.

Find it under Store settings → Screen profiles, right below Screen saver.

What a profile changes — and what it doesn't

Assign a profile to a till and its media takes over what that till's screen saver shows, replacing that till's own photo/GIF/video/website entirely.

Two things stay exactly as they were, on every till, whether or not a profile is assigned:

  • Whether the screen saver comes on at all.
  • How long it waits with no touch before it does.

Both are still set per till on Store settings → Screen saver — a profile only supplies what to show, never when.

Note

Unassign a till at any time to go straight back to its own screen saver settings — nothing about them is lost while a profile is in charge.

Create a profile

  1. 1

    Open Screen profiles

From the sidebar, go to Store settings → Screen profiles.

  2. 2

    Click New profile

Give it a name (e.g. Happy hour, Seasonal menu).

  3. 3

    Add items

Open the profile and click Add item. Choose Photo, GIF, Video or Website, add its media, and optionally a fallback still and how long to show it for.

A profile holds up to 20 items. Use the up/down arrows on each item to reorder the list.

Note

The till plays your items in order and then loops back to the first, showing each one for the number of seconds you set. A profile with a single item simply shows that item, exactly like the per-till screen saver.

A till picks up a change on its next check-in, so give it about a minute. Tills running an older app version show the first item in your list rather than rotating — another reason to put your best item at the top.

The limits

Each item follows the same rules as the per-till screen saver:

  • Photo — JPG, PNG or WebP. A big photo (up to 30 MB) is shrunk automatically to fit a till screen.
  • GIF — animated, up to 25 MB, plays on a loop.
  • Video — MP4 or WebM, up to 25 MB and about 15 seconds. Always plays silently on a loop — a screen saver never makes noise.
  • Website — any web address.

Heads up

Add a fallback still for Video and Website items. If the till can't load the video or the page — offline, a slow connection, the site is down — it shows the fallback instead. Without one, an unreachable video or website used to leave the till on a plain black screen.

Assign a profile to tills

Below the profile list, every paired till gets its own picker. Choose a profile, or "Use this till's own screen saver" to unassign it. Saving is instant — there's no separate Save button — and the change reaches the till on its next heartbeat, usually within a minute.

If you pick a profile that has no items yet, the till simply keeps using its own screen saver until you add one, so you can't accidentally blank a live till by assigning an empty profile.

Delete a profile

Deleting a profile (the trash icon next to its name) removes it from this list for good — there's no undo screen. Any till currently assigned to it falls back to its own screen saver settings the moment you delete it, so nothing is left pointing at a missing profile.

Card terminals

Screen profiles are a till feature, same as screen saver. A card terminal's idle screen is the pay-at-counter screen instead — any paired terminals appear in their own list marked "Not supported here", with a pointer to Pay at counter where their idle screen is configured.

What's next

  • Screen saver — set one till's media on its own, and the sleep timing every till uses either way.
  • Devices — pair the tills you'll assign profiles to.
