Mode capabilities
Every switch inside a mode — the screens and actions it turns on for the device.
Capabilities are grouped. Each one switches a screen or action on or off for any device running the mode:
- Keypad — a tab for typing in an amount and taking a quick sale. Terminal only.
- Menu — shows your item menu for building an order.
- Floor plan — adds the floor plan. On a till it's a tab; on a terminal the home opens on the table grid.
- Dine in — lets staff seat an order at a table. Appears wherever the floor plan is shown.
- Bookings — adds the Bookings tab for reservations. Till only.
- Order Centre — the list of all open tabs, plus New tab and Bar tab actions. Till only.
- Bar tabs — lets staff open a free-standing named tab without a table.
- Takeaway — allows takeaway and collection orders.
- Cash payments — shows Pay with Cash at the pay step.
- Split the bill — shows Split order so a bill can be split across several payments.
- Discounts — shows the Discount action at the pay step.
- Refunds — lets staff refund a past sale from Records. Needs the Refunds entitlement enabled for your account.
- Part payment — take some of the bill now and settle the rest later.
- Return after ordering — after sending an order, jump back to where it started instead of staying on the order screen.
- Menu search — a search button on the till's menu, so staff can find an item by typing part of its name. Till only. If you have never changed it, the till keeps its usual behaviour for your menu style: the Drilldown and Grouped styles show search, Classic does not.
Staff login sits in its own section rather than this list, because it does two things at once: devices on this mode show a passcode lock screen, and once someone signs in, their role's permissions and the sections they're allowed to see start applying — on this mode only. Set it up in Lock a mode with passcodes. It is separate from the account-wide switch that lets staff sign in and out everywhere so you can see who made each sale — that lives under Staff → Settings, see Let staff sign in on any device.
That same section holds the switches that only apply once staff sign in — separate baskets per person, Basket follows the staff member, Manager override and Sign staff out automatically. They are in the Staff section rather than the list above because each depends on somebody being signed in, and some depend on each other: basket carry-over stays greyed out until separate baskets is on.
Some capabilities only do something where the matching feature is switched on for your account — for example Bookings.
Note
If a capability isn't enabled on your account, its toggle simply doesn't appear in the editor — it isn't shown greyed-out. So if you expected to set, say, Refunds or Bookings and the toggle isn't there, that feature isn't on your account. Switching a capability on in a mode never enables a feature your account doesn't have; it stays absent on the device. To get a feature added, contact your account manager.
