Screen saver

Send an idle till to a full-screen photo, GIF, short video or website after a set time, and wake it with a touch — set per till.

Screen saver turns an idle till into a full-screen photo, GIF, short video or website — useful for a till that faces the room. Any touch wakes it straight back to the screen it was on, so nothing is lost mid-order.

It's set per till. The display till by the door can sleep while the counter till on the same account carries on as normal.

Find it under Store settings → Screen saver.

One till at a time, or one set for many

Set it here when a till needs its own thing. If several tills should show the same media, or you want a rotating set you can swap in one move, build a screen profile once and assign tills to it instead of editing each till by hand.

Note

A profile assigned to a till takes over what that till shows, replacing the media you set below until you unassign it. Whether the screen saver comes on at all, and how long it waits, always stay here — a profile only supplies what to show, never when.

Turn on sleep mode for a till

  1. 1

    Open Screen saver

From the sidebar, go to Store settings → Screen saver. Every paired till gets its own card, with a rough "last seen" line so you can tell which physical till is which.

  2. 2

    Switch on Sleep mode

The rest of the settings appear once it's on.

  3. 3

    Choose how long it waits

Go to sleep after — 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes with no touch. A till you've never set starts at 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Pick what it shows

Choose Photo, GIF, Video or Website, add the media, and for Video or Website add a fallback still.

  5. 5

    Click Save

Each card saves on its own. The change reaches that till on its next check-in, so give it about a minute.

Note

A till with sleep mode on but no media set simply stays on its live screen — it never goes dark on you while you're still choosing what to show.

What you can show

  • Photo — JPG, PNG or WebP. A big photo (up to 30 MB) is shrunk automatically to fit a till screen. Fills the whole screen, so a landscape image looks best.
  • GIF — animated, up to 25 MB, plays on a loop.
  • Video — MP4 or WebM, up to 25 MB and about 15 seconds. Always plays silently on a loop — a screen saver never makes noise.
  • Website — any web address. It fills the screen but isn't interactive: a touch wakes the till rather than clicking the page.

Switching type clears the media you'd picked for the previous one — a photo and a web address aren't interchangeable — so add the new media before saving. A fallback still you've already uploaded is kept.

Heads up

Add a fallback still for Video and Website. If the till can't load the video or the page — it's offline, the connection is slow, the site is down — it shows the still instead. Without one, an unreachable video used to leave the till on a plain black screen, which looks like broken hardware.

Card terminals

Screen saver is a till feature. A card terminal has no idle timeout of its own — what it shows between payments is the pay-at-counter screen instead. Any paired terminals are listed at the bottom of the page marked "Not supported here", with a pointer to Pay at counter, where you set what a terminal shows when it's idle.

What's next

  • Screen profiles — build one set of media and assign it to any number of tills.
  • Devices — pair and name the tills that appear here.
