Payment settings
Choose how your tills and card machines take a payment, starting with whether the card machine asks for a tip when a bill is split by a typed amount.
Payment settings is where you choose how your tills and card machines take a payment. Go to More → Store settings → Payment settings.
You'll see it if your venue uses the till. Each setting on the page only shows once the feature it controls is turned on for your venue.
Tips on amount splits
When staff split a bill by amount ("he's putting £20 towards it"), the card machine doesn't ask for a tip on the amount that was typed in. Whoever chose the figure has already decided what to put in, tip included, so asking again would be asking twice.
The other part, what's left of the bill, asks for a tip as normal.
If you'd rather the card machine still asks on a typed amount, turn on Offer a tip on amount splits. The change reaches your tills within about a minute.
Note
This needs an up-to-date card machine app. On an older one, the card machine asks for a tip on every part whatever this setting says.
This setting only appears if your venue has Split by amount. If you don't see it, ask us to turn it on.
